Southwell Ramblers finally get to Norfolk
After a break of two years and at the third attempt, twenty-three members of Southwell Ramblers finally managed to get to Norfolk on a walking holiday in the first week of October. The restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 outbreak were responsible for delaying our trip. For eight it was their first time, but the group has been organising very successful trips of this type for thirty years.
On day 1, nineteen participants meet in the Sandringham Estate to stretch their legs after journeying to Norfolk. The short stroll in the grounds of the Estate on the first afternoon was lead by Lynn and Dave before checking into the Ffolkes Arms in Hillington.

On day 2 there were two walks on offer starting from the hotel. A circuit of twelve miles passed close to Castle Rising and through the Sandringham Estate before returning to the hotel. It was led by Dinah and Jim. A shorter walk in the vicinity of Hillington was led by Christine and the two Lynns which allowed a visit to nearby Castle Rising in the afternoon.

On day 3 there were two more walks both starting from the carpark in Holme next the Sea. Both groups walked east along the coast to Holme Dunes and the National Nature Reserve before turning inland to Thornham. Next it was uphill to the dizzy heights of 49 metres before the groups parted company. Those on the short walk returned to Holme via Green Bank whilst those on the long walk continued to Ringstead before returning to Holme along the Peddars Way. Walks were lead by Sandy and Ian, Dave and Janet.

At the top of the hill, a dizzy 49 metres.
The final day was free enabling people to follow their own interests before returning home. Glad to be back to some sort of normality with trips to the Brecon Beacons and South Downs next year to look forward to.
